Mythical Gods

Regarding mythical figures like gods, is the presumption of non-existence important for society?

Just like in our legal system, it’s very important to have the presumption of innocence, the presumption of non-existence is also very important for mythical figures like gods, angels, leprechauns, elves, fairies, etc, right? I mean, if we assumed all these imaginary beings were real, our minds would be burdened with this nonsense and we’d spend every minute of our lives making sacrifices, praying, making offerings, observing holy days etc, nothing would get done and society would stagnate. So it’s important for people to assume things like gods are not real and to place the burden of proof on those who claim their gods are real, right? And if they can’t prove their gods are real, then we can safely presume their gods are imaginary, can’t we? So regarding the Christians god; there is a presumption of non-existence and the burden of proof is on them, right?

Mythical figures should be “non-existent” until proven otherwise. The whole idea of “we cannot disprove it so we shouldn’t rule it out” is intellectually dishonest and naive.
