So having improved my acquaintance, this is even more nerd gyaan (and I use the term together with affection) about video gaming. Initially, a little background for the sake of creating a backdrop. I didn’t know video games were sensible just enough a quest to be entitled to possessing a history, but there you go. Existing will astonish you. That being said, foremost came ‘A Cathode Ray Tube Amusement Device’ spectacularly, all the way back in 1947. Bridging the distance somewhere between then and now, there’ve also been 7 generations of video games. Remember the first Atari’s arcade Pong which created market interest in house consoles?

In the 1980s, the Golden Age of video gaming reached its peak, and several genres were born. Pac-Man, Mario, Prince of Persia, Dungeons and Dragons, Final Fantasy beat ‘em up, maze, platform, fighting, adventure, racing, RPGs, stealth, rhythm and vehicle simulation…. Trivia: Vehicle simulation is now used in flight simulation programs for pilots in training. And hand held Pakbots are used by the U.S. Army to train youngsters in simulated target practise, moving & stationary. Nintendo dominated the market right up to the 1990s, which saw a lot of innovation and maturation, transitioning into 3D graphics. Sega entered the market offering some major competition to Nintendo.

Video gaming became popular as a supply of mainstream entertainment adding economic cooperation with the music and film industries. Game demos, online gaming, MMORPGs, browser games, CD ROM high capacity storage formats all sprang up during this period contributing some very important advancements in the profession. Games consoles transformed as well as evolved during this period, from the 8 bit towards Nintendo 64 bit, to the Game boy and Sony’s Play station. And at this point, I get to introduce the PS2 games console. I have already been actively playing PS2 game titles in my mission to familiarise me with the arena of gaming.

Here we go: The successor of the original Play station, sixth generational Play station 2 is the best ever selling console to date having reached over 140 million sets sold, which not even the PS3 or PSP have yet gotten close to surpassing. It was sold as a ‘lifestyle accessory’ to young males and had a more mature range of PS2 games which accounted for its success as compared to Nintendo which had earned a name for itself in the kiddie corner.

Whilst not as current as the PS3 or even Xbox 360 console being used nowadays, PS2 game consoles tend to be considerably inexpensive as well as do play most if not all the slightly older PS and all PS2 games. The graphics from the PS3 and Xbox 360s are better with resolution and definition nonetheless.
